Process Simulation Professional

The design-grade credential: take a separation to a product spec, move from a shortcut estimate to a rigorous column model, and converge and interpret a complete reaction–separation–recycle process.

What you demonstrate: Can design distillation to a product spec, validate it with a rigorous model, and converge and interpret a full recycle process.

Learning is free; issuing this certificate is a one-time paid step ($29 · Pro $19) — Pro members save, Campus included.

Modules (0/3 passed)

Module 1 · Distillation Design to Spec

Designing a column to a recovery/purity spec with the shortcut (FUG) method, and meeting spec at both ends.

Assessment: Run the benzene–toluene column and confirm it hits spec on both ends: the distillate ≥95 mol% benzene and the bottoms ≥95 mol% toluene. (pass 70%)

Module 2 · Rigorous Column Modelling (MESH)

From a shortcut estimate to a tray-by-tray (MESH) column: converge a rigorous model and confirm it reproduces the design.

Assessment: Converge both columns on the same feed and confirm each distillate reaches ≥95 mol% benzene — the rigorous MESH column should reproduce the FUG shortcut. (pass 70%)

Module 3 · Recycle Process Synthesis & Convergence

A complete reaction–separation–recycle loop with purge: converge the tear stream and hold the product spec on a real synthesis loop.

Assessment: Converge the full ammonia synthesis loop (compress, react, condense, purge, recycle) and confirm the liquid product is ≥95 mol% ammonia. (pass 70%)

Capstone

Cross-module capstone

Deliver a converged benzene–toluene separation that meets both product specs — ≥98 mol% benzene overhead and ≥98 mol% toluene bottoms — with a compact flowsheet (≤ 6 unit operations).
