Process Simulation Associate

The entry credential: build, run and converge process flowsheets, read vapor–liquid equilibrium, choose a property method and interpret a reactor at equilibrium.

What you demonstrate: Can build and converge a multi-unit process simulation and interpret its results correctly.

Learning is free; issuing this certificate is a one-time paid step ($19 · Pro $12) — Pro members save, Campus included.

Modules (0/4 passed)

Module 1 · Process Simulation Fundamentals

Flowsheeting, feeds and products, mass & energy balances, and getting a recycle process to converge.

Assessment: Open the recycle flowsheet, make sure it is connected correctly and run it to a converged solution. (pass 70%)

Module 2 · Vapor–Liquid Equilibrium & Flash

The single equilibrium stage: how a flash splits a mixture by volatility, and reading the two products.

Assessment: Run the flash recycle and confirm the vapor stream is enriched in the lighter component (≥70% pentane). (pass 70%)

Module 3 · Thermodynamics & Property-Method Selection

Choosing the right property package, and why polar/azeotropic systems need an activity model (NRTL).

Assessment: Run the ethanol–water column on NRTL and confirm the distillate concentrates ethanol (≥60 mol%) toward the azeotrope. (pass 70%)

Module 4 · Reactor Fundamentals

Conversion, equilibrium and predictive (Gibbs) reactor models, and reading an equilibrium composition.

Assessment: Run the predictive Gibbs reactor and confirm a meaningful equilibrium ammonia fraction (≥0.25) in the product. (pass 70%)

Capstone

Cross-module capstone

Deliver a converged recycle separation that meets the spec using a compact flowsheet (≤ 8 unit operations).
