Cost Engineering & Process Economics
The money side of process engineering: size and cost equipment from a converged simulation, assemble OPEX and cost of manufacture, and judge designs by NPV, IRR and payback - the techno-economic analysis skill set.
What you demonstrate: Can turn a converged process simulation into a defensible study-grade techno-economic analysis and design to capital and profitability constraints.

Modules (0/3 passed)
Module 1 · Capital Cost Estimation
Size equipment from the converged balance and cost it: purchased vs bare-module cost, module factors, cost indices and the economy of scale.
Assessment: Run the benzene-toluene column, open the Economics environment and study Sizing & CAPEX. Deliver a converged design whose fixed capital stays under $1,000,000 at the default cost basis. (pass 70%)
Module 2 · Operating Cost & Profitability
From energy balance to OPEX: utility assignment, cost of manufacture, and discounted-cash-flow profitability (NPV, IRR, payback).
Assessment: Run the TEA-basis flowsheet and open Economics -> Profitability. With the given price set (feed 0.45, benzene 0.95, toluene 0.60 $/kg), deliver a converged design earning NPV >= $10M at the 10% hurdle rate. (pass 70%)
Module 3 · Design Under Economic Constraints
Holding a product spec while respecting a capital budget - the capital-vs-energy trade-off exercised on a real design.
Assessment: Meet the product spec economically: >= 98.5 mol% benzene overhead, a compact flowsheet (<= 8 units), and fixed capital under $1.5M. (pass 70%)
Capstone
Cross-module capstone
The full brief: deliver a converged benzene-toluene separation holding >= 98.5 mol% benzene overhead, with fixed capital under $1.5M at the default cost basis AND an NPV of at least $10M at the 10% hurdle rate on the given price set. Purity, capital and profitability - all three at once.
